If I have been absent for the last few weeks for a very good reason: The Art of Joy Brown. The film is about its name sake, a remarkable artist, ceramist and sculptor. Joy is a porter and sculptor living in Kent, CT. Her work, often monumental, has captured the imagination of many, my own included.
After receiving a request from Joy to consider a documentary film about her mural work for a new museum in Amami Ōshima, Japan. The mural is a work in progress, and I could not resist the temptation to create a trailer for a possible film.
My son William Montes-Liendo was there to assist, and Joy was there to introduce me to her entourage of the resident artists who will make her commission for this mural a reality. Everything I have to say, is in this roughly seven-minute-long film, the rest, in the form of a 60-minute documentary film is yet to unfold.
