I recently had the chance to sit down with Dave Matthews in Virginia to talk about Joy Brown’s monumental bronze sculptures. Her work has this incredible way of grounding you—those peaceful, quiet figures that have stood in the streets of Shanghai and New York, offering a sense of calm amidst all the chaos. Dave, being both a rockstar and an art collector, shared something beautiful.
For me, Joy’s objects reminds us of who we are. They’re not about being exotic or otherworldly—they’re familiar, grounding. That sense of connection is one of the many reasons I’m so excited about The Art of Joy Brown, a film we’re working on right now. It’s set to release in Spring 2025, and I can’t wait to share it with you all.
