Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 8, when Black Fiddlers will be shown at 6:00 PM in the theatre at the International African American Museum. This screening is part of "Visions of the South: Celebrating African American Artistry," a film series that highlights the profound contributions of African American artists across various creative disciplines.
Black Fiddlers, a documentary film by Eduardo Montes-Bradley, explores the legacy and enduring influence of African American fiddlers in the United States. The film features performances and insights from Earl White, and Rhiannon Giddens, celebrated artists dedicated to preserving this rich musical tradition.
The International African American Museum, which opened on June 27, 2023, is a beacon of history and culture, situated on the hallowed grounds of a former shipping wharf in Charleston, South Carolina. This location holds immense historical significance, as approximately 40% of the nation's enslaved persons disembarked at this very site. Today, the museum stands as a tribute to their resilience and the enduring contributions of African Americans to the fabric of American society.
Jennifer Randall, CFH Program Manager and Lead Archivist at the International African American Museum, expresses the museum's pride in presenting Eduardo Montes-Bradley's extraordinary work. "This screening of Black Fiddlers represents not just a celebration of African American artistry, but also a reflection of the stories that resonate deeply with our museum's mission and purpose," she notes.
Join us for an evening of music, history, and inspiration. Tickets and additional information about the screening can be found on the International African American Museum's website: https://iaamuseum.org.
We look forward to seeing you there as we celebrate the legacy of African American fiddlers and their indelible impact on American music and culture.
